This week's Tutorial: Four Steps to a Better Cup of Tea

Tea is the number one most consumed drink in the world; yet why do so few know how to make it correctly?

If you think tea is just boiled, bitter leaf water, have we got a wake-up call for you.

Step 1: Check Your Water

Don’t use boring, old tap water for your tea - you’ll end up with all the flavor of the tap; minerals, salt, chlorine, fluoride - Yuck! Try using spring or filtered water instead! The results will be more predictable, and it’ll taste a lot more like tea, and a little less like licking the inside of a water pipe. Remember, clean water equals clean tea!

Step 2: Measure Your tea

Loose-leaf or bagged, the recipe is the same: one teaspoon of dried tea for every eight ounces, (1 cup) of water. For stronger tea, use more tea leaves.
Never brew it longer, unless you like bitter tea!

Step 3: Steeping time

Tea tasting bitter and Dry? You’ve probably overcooked it! For tasty tea, follow these rules!

Step 4: Add to taste

Still too strong? Try adding something new! with So many options from around the world… you’re bound to find something new to love!

Helpful Tips:

Microwaves? In my tea? Better not!

Microwaves heat up water unevenly and unpredictably! For best results, use an electric kettle with a built-in thermometer.

Like spices, tea is better when fresh. For the best flavor, keep your tea in a dark, cool, and dry place. An airtight container will lengthen its shelf life.

Before adding milk or cream, check to see if your tea contains citrus or high acidity; the acid will raise the ph of the milk, causing it to curdle! Yuck!
